weekend report

We had a blast despite the snow!  So many people still braved the elements to worship together this weekend at Crossroads, and I know everyone that made the effort was SO GLAD they did!

Rick Muchow, one of our long-time favorite Saddleback leaders, lead us in worship and it was so great again to worship under his leadership!  Rick has such a heart for the Lord and loves His Church and it shows as he lead us!

Rick is such a strong worship leader and everyone's voices raised in praise to the Lord!

preparing

It seems I'm always in a state of preparing.

My entire job is to prepare and to enable others to be prepared.

But tonight's preparing is special because Rick Muchow is in the house!

Crossroads is 18 years old and we have a few friends we've made through the years that stay in touch.  Rick Muchow is one of them and he is back this weekend.

Rick has taught our teams, encouraged us and empowered us to lead our congregation in worship over the years!  And we get him to be with us this weekend, and it's going to be great!

Rick travels the world training leaders and you can learn more about him on his website http://rickmuchow.com

my day off

Airports and mushrooms.

As sad as it was, the time had quickly come to take Rick Muchow back to the airport! Our fantastic weekend had come to an end. It is always very hard to say goodbye, especially to friends you are not sure will ever be able to return to Crossroads!

We headed home and got a call from my dad asking if I thought there were still mushrooms in our woods...I highly doubted it, but they headed over anyway.

I know, I know several weeks too late, but, it's the first time we have had any time to go, so we went anyway. Of course we found no mushrooms, but, had a blast looking! (I bet when you saw this picture you got excited thinking we found it???!! - naw, it belongs to some other lucky hunter!) I think we spent as much time hunting for one another in the woods as we did for mushrooms! We kept hearing phones ringing as my parents called one another when we got separated! Funny!

Although we would have much preferred eating mushrooms, we finally gave up and went out to eat. Our choice for fine dining was the World Renowned Bellville establishment the famous, the V & M! ha ha...The same location as the "World's Fair" held each year on the main street of the little town!

I love my parents and I enjoy spending time with them as much as I possibly can!! All that hiking made me tired, so got to go!

my day off

I feel so blessed. Blessed in so many ways!

I just got off the phone with Rick Muchow's travel agent, Jim. You may know that Rick Muchow is the Saddleback Church's Worship Pastor in California. We were deeply blessed by Rick's first visit back in November of last year.

Now, that is just plain ridiculous - so obviously a God thing that we would get the privilege to host Rick twice!! Rick's next visit to Crossroads is scheduled for May 16 & 17!! It is the understatement of the year to say that I am crazy excited to have him back!!

His teaching affected our Magnification Teams deeply the first time he visited us and I cannot wait to serve with him again in May. God is so, so good!

I then had a completely unexpected conversation with a pastor in San Diego via. email. I would love to cultivate a relationship between Crossroads and his ministry as well. Total surprise that I'll elaborate on at a later time.

You know, God never intended for churches across America to do life alone, separately. It's not a competition! We need to help one another and encourage one another. I think the churches of America are going to come together in more ways than we have ever before witnessed. I believe with all my heart that Crossroads is going to begin to have more and more chances to connect with other ministries as well as amazing world changing mission opportunities! We truly are a blessed congregation and there is no where I would rather be!

Rick's voice

I value voices. I listen to everyone that talks to me differently perhaps than most people listen. I have an appreciation for good voices because I need good voices for many of the projects I create. But I value most of all a voice of wisdom and experience.

Did you ever meet someone that you just feel like you've known forever? That is how Ron and I felt about Rick Muchow, Saddleback's Worship Pastor. I thought I would be very intimidated and nervous, not so. He put us at ease from the moment we met him. The entire Magnification team felt the very same way!

The weekend was exactly what our teams needed, a wise, experienced voice. Rick spoke to us on Saturday morning, reminding us what worship really was. Worship is not just the music portion of each service, but instead the entire service, every element. It also includes our preparation, what we bring to each service, our attitudes, spiritual preparation as well as rehearsal.

In talking to Rick later, I asked him how he was able to lead the incredible amount of Christmas Eve services at Saddleback Church. He said he would begin immediately upon returning to California to not only prepare musically but physically. He would be working out more and getting ready to give his best to each service. I never thought about how being physically in shape would make services even better, it just makes sense. Many practical things he mentioned were so helpful.

It is amazing how quickly you fall into routines, Rick pointed out that the way you rehearse, is the way you will perform. Habits are created at rehearsal. If you want to have good stage presence, smile and imagine you are leading an audience even when there isn't one. Rehearsal has to be the place that you practice leading, not just the words and notes to songs. I could go on and on.

When I asked Rick to come it was so our teams could hear a new voice, an experienced voice. A voice that God has used to lead thousands of people through faithful obedience to his calling.
A call Rick cannot deny because he lives a life to serve his God and to serve God's people.

Rick's voice changed us, and we are forever grateful.

These are additional pictures taken while Rick was here: We took him to see the Carousel Works. We discovered they were refinishing some of the carousel pieces from the Central Park Carousel in New York. Rick remembered sitting in the chariot when he was a young boy in New York! He enjoyed reminiscing while looking at all the amazing carousel creatures being created and restored.

Thanks for coming to Mansfield
Rick!
