our Easter celebration

Our worship of the risen Savior began long before the public viewing of our work.

It began with ideas that we weren't sure would even work or how we were going to do them.  It began with prayer over those ideas asking the Lord to make it clear to us what He chose.  It began with casting the vision and convincing others to join the work.  It began with a commitment to whatever it required to be ready in time.  And it began with a hope that God would use it to change lives for all of eternity...and He did!!

We gave out over 50 Believers Packets as Pastor Dave carefully explained what it means to make a decision for Christ - to Empty ourself of all the shame, guilt and past regrets to simply follow Him!

It was obvious in our world that's so FULL of stuff and choices that people still feel so EMPTY.

Isn't it ironic that we have to be willing to give up our junk, to EMPTY ourselves in order to truly feel FULL?  Only the death and resurrection of a Savior fills us.

This is what my Easter season looked like!

I loved this picture, it's perhaps the one that sums up everything!  From children to
adults writing on the empty tomb - writing what they wanted Jesus to empty their lives of!

Behind the scenes at Crossroads with Justin our actor!  He worked hard to memorize
the drama for our video!
My precious son Eric our amazing videographer
working on behind the scenes pieces of the video drama.

Eric video taping Justin in his office.

Willow Creek was so generous to explain to me how
to make the 'oil concoction'.

This is one of my favorite pictures...my son and grandson shooting the 'hand shots'
from the video/drama.  Where God washed the dirt of our lives away...

Although holidays are the busiest for us in ministry, we always try to still make
it fun for our family!

We miss our precious ones in North Carolina, but the Lord is already using them
in amazing ways as a family in their community and church!
I LOVED the simplicity of Good Friday.  It was the first Good Friday service I've ever gotten
to create and it was one of my favorite services in 23 years!  I think our lives are starving for
simplicity in Jesus...a focus away from the emptiness of life.

We even had fun at rehearsal!

The boys in the band!!
I loved the simplicity of the set design and I LOVED they way it
connected Good Friday to Easter!!  (HUGE shout out to Eric Longstreth's work)

Our amazingly gifted Senior Pastor Dave Vance - our friend!!

Monica and Ernesto using what God gifted them to do!

Meanwhile leading up to Easter, our fearless Worship Pastor Ernesto,
was also playing the role of Jesus in a musical!  What??

Our lobby at Crossroads

People used the backgrounds exactly as we had prayed they would!
Both as a place to write the things the Lord was emptying them of
as well as a place to take pictures with friends and families.  These simple backgrounds
become part of their families' forever stories.

I stood off in the distance and watched a precious friend battling
cancer write Empty of Cancer on the tomb and wept when she
walked away - lifting her in prayer!!

In all the years I've been involved in creating things at Crossroads, I think these two guys by far have logged the most hours
helping me!  My amazing, perfect husband Ron and our dear friend Greg Crawfis!!  They roll their eyes but don't complain!  ha ha ha!!  A huge shout out to Dan Zachman for helping construct the tombs!

We decided at the suggestion of a friend to leave the walls from the EMPTY tomb up this weekend for people to see what was written on those walls during the other services of Easter weekend.
As our new series EMPTY begins it will continue to be relevant as we examine our lives and submit them to the Lord!

To God be the glory - for His sacrifice for us.
And thank you to the leadership at Crossroads which gives us space to create, figure it out and ultimately be a team God uses to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!

weekend report

As we began to prepare for one of the most important weekends of the year when we launch our Communities and Classes - we were joined by Pastor Dave's good friend Pastor Patrick Grach.  It was obvious that God hand-picked Patrick to speak to us about the Luke 2 passage explaining that God intended for us to need one another - to participate in gatherings and groups in order to love and serve one another!  It was great!

We worshiped together both in the main auditorium and our student ministry.   I heard music come from the back so I couldn't resist taking a picture of Ben leading our student worship team preparing to lead students to the Lord.  It was excellent!

Ben Stuckey leading our amazing student ministry band.
Our worship in the main auditorium included a very touching 'send out' prayer for Brooke and Keegan McQuate.  Keegan grew up at Crossroads and came back from college as an intern with us while Brooke was on our children's staff.  So encouraging to see young adults grow up in the church and then go out!  The raised hands in the congregation represent a promise to remember them in prayer!  So good!

A promise from our congregation to pray!
WORSHIP was SO strong - I was thankful to be there!

weekend report

My view of the weekend.

Running down hallways with final info about people being baptized.
Talking on walkie talkies.
Rushing into the video booth more times than I have in months!  (Also snagging one of Bob Price's amazing mini cream sticks he brings the tech team whenever he serves!)
Discussing how to save 3 or 4 minutes in the service.
Crying backstage as I send people out to be baptized.
Organizing the group of mom's that send care packages to our college students and college aged military young adults.
Holding a crying little girl who was waiting to go out on stage and be baptized.
Listening to the congregation shout and sing praises to the King witnessing people following the Lord in obedience as they are baptized!
Listening to a challenging message - the first in our Messy Christmas series!

Celebrating again, that this is my job!

A few shots of the weekend.

weekend report

As I got home tonight from work and began once again working inside to keep caught up as well as begin some Fall cleaning, the trees blowing and leaves falling created a scene I could not resist.  So now I sit in my favorite spot on our deck.

The sounds that greet me are everything from falling walnuts as they pound the ground below the trees each time the wind blows, to birds considering whether they'll fly in to the feeders for an evening snack, to the sound of the neighbors' nightly target shooting.  All these sounds are a welcome distraction from what I should probably be accomplishing.

But I can't resist!

This was a great day as I got to do a couple of my very favorite things!

I got to work with a brilliant young lady that came in to record this coming weekend's announcements.  She loves the Lord and we talked about the amazing things God's using her to accomplish and it was such an encouraging time together.  I pray I get to work with her a lot in the future!  Very few things excite me more than discovering new talent and connecting them to our ministry!

After that I had the privilege with my daughter to present the Crossroads Christmas concept to Pastor Dave.  I've worked on 20 Crossroads' Christmas concepts and I'm still as encouraged and excited as ever when all year long I collect possible creative elements, songs, videos and set design ideas - and then sit down with others and watch how the ideas they contribute fit hand in hand with them.  It's obvious that God's hand is on the concept when everything lines up beautifully.  (It's also obvious when it's just been my idea and isn't the will of the Lord!)

As we showed Pastor Dave each element for the first time, it was fascinating to hear his on-the-spot suggestions and affirmation as he graciously listened to us and was so encouraging as he approved the concept.  I left this meeting excited to begin work on the specific elements that I need to create and pass on to others to work on!

Now about last weekend - the Weekend Report

I don't remember another weekend which was so full of technical miscommunications about details of the service, equipment failure, announcement guy's car breaking down preventing him from doing the announcements at the 9:00 a.m. service and many more difficult details behind the scenes.

I believe with all my heart that the enemy was hard at work to discourage the teams this weekend that were involved in the services following an amazing rehearsal last Thursday night and time of devotions and sharing personal needs with one another - a break through moment of sharing according to several team members I talked with!

But despite all the behind the scene problems I received so many compliments and thank you's for the praise and tech teams that I knew God used it exactly as He had intended and nothing was going to stop it from happening.

Here's just a few pictures of our weekend services.

Jocelyn lead this great team as we all joined in for a glorious time of worship!

Austin, Scott and Johnnie all gave their talents to the Lord to help
make the weekend excellent!

Our tech guys play such a huge part in the worship services too!  The LED set design is one of my favorites!

weekend report

Well I thought I had seen it all, and then Pastor Dave took the stage...

It was a blast this past weekend at Crossroads!  I don't think we could have fit another element into our services!  And each element was amazing!

From the recognition of our Veterans by Nicole Blakely, a retired Veteran herself, to a rap by our lead pastor - Dr. Dave Vance, to beautiful worship and the privilege of praying for a hard-working missionary!  So very good to be at Crossroads this past weekend!

We gave out EVERY SINGLE new visitors packet again this weekend and are scrambling to keep up with serving all our new attendees!  God is good, so very good!

As we prepare for Thanksgiving his week, I am completely aware of how very, very many things I have to be grateful for and I cannot silence my words of thanksgiving to my Lord!!!

Here is a glimpse at some of the things from this past weekend at Crossroads.

Yes it's true, our pastor is a rapper!

It's Undeniable!   He brought it!

weekend report

One thing about Crossroads Community Church that no one can argue about is that things constantly change!  And I LOVE change - I love new challenges and opportunities to 'figure out' how to make something new work!  And this weekend was no exception - a new addition!

Crossroads welcomed the Taylor family to our ministry this weekend - and what a blessing they are going to be to us!  Their love for the Lord is evident from the moment you speak to them - and nothing encourages me more then to see a family that worships together, serves together and values 'the church' equalling.  Although there are certainly exceptions to this, it just helps you to be 'fully in' when your family stands with you unified in the calling!

Doug will serve as our Communities Discipleship Pastor.  We're dedicated to a commitment to really provide our congregation with opportunities to do life in a smaller community or class setting, to grow in the Lord together and to become a tight-knit community in the Him!

Our worship was great as always and it warmed my heart to see several of the young adults on stage that our senior worship leaders have poured in to,  giving them opportunity to lead!  We have a fabulous praise team and one of the things that make it that way is the multiple generations on stage together. We believe if our goal isn't to mentor and raise up the next generations - then our leadership has failed!  It takes a commitment to welcome and support all generations using all of their various life-experience, spiritual maturity and musical ability mixed together to give glory to our Lord!  Very exciting!

Worshipping and leading our congregation so well!

The old song Turn, Turn, Turn - set up the study on Ecclesiastes beautifully
