why pray

Do you ever wonder if prayer really is necessary?

The Bible talks about it a lot, this is just one of many passages.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I wonder if God tells us to pray constantly because He simply wants us to communicate with Him - He wants to be close to us? He already knows what will happen next so I sometimes find myself wondering if it's really necessary.

Is it another area of our lives in which He just plain asks for obedience?

I believe it's partially about relationship. I know when I really pray consistently, He fills my mind with himself - gives me a heavenly mind-set, one that's not concerned as much with life circumstances. He also gives me confidence to move ahead in the direction He's making obvious to me. Without prayer I'm just a participant in this earthly life - losing my focus on why I was created in the first place, and unconcerned with 'what could be' in Him.

What an insult to Him, when we don't spend time in prayer - except of course when we're in trouble!

Prayer is also vital in regard to the church, and powerful when our voices raise together!

I found these 4 things that happen as a result of unified, consistent prayer from a body of believers!

1.The Word gets preached with boldness.
2.The church remains unified on mission together.
3.The world hears about the hope of the resurrection.
4.God’s blessing and favor is upon his people.
5.The community is changed by infectious generosity.

One of the events we're considering during the days leading up to our 20 year anniversary this fall, is a prayer event. It seems to me the only response that makes sense, a time of thanking Him for what He's accomplished through Crossroads, and the only thing we can offer to the Lord that will have any affect on our future as a ministry!

What an amazing opportunity we have, we weren't just created and sent along our way alone, He asks us to communicate with Him without stopping....that's crazy good!

what I learned today

I learned I am very, very thankful for my husband! We are celebrating 32 years of wedded bliss today!

I like Ron because...

He loves me regardless...
He loves God with his actions as well as his words!
(consistency- something I greatly admire!)
He is SO kind all the time!
He is a great father!
He works very, very hard! (something else I greatly admire)
He is cute!
He celebrates my victories as if they were his own!! (he's my greatest cheerleader!)
He loves my family.

Well, as you can see - he's pretty much perfect!

LOVE YOU RON!

my day off

Today is my 30th wedding anniversary! And guess what? I've never loved my husband more! I have no idea how I got such a man, God is good!

I am sitting in a little coffee shop trying to prepare for the week and waiting for my massage appointment! Not a luxury exactly as I have continued to suffer from a neck injury early this year, but a great way to start the day nevertheless!

We are then going out of town for the rest of the day just to eat a fabulous meal and enjoy the day!

Titus 2:4 & 5a and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure...

So why would a young woman have to be trained to love her husband? That's not what the movies show...you just fall in love and everything falls into place...NOT SO!

Any relationship is work, so why do we let our young people go into the most important earthly relationship of all unprepared? I definitely believe the home is the first line of teaching our children these things. Most importantly we are commanded to love one another, to demonstrate what a Godly couple look like and act like and serve like! This presses deeply into their very being. I was fortunate to grow up in this kind of Godly family. It has a direct connection to my training to love my husband.

I have mentioned before how much I appreciate my parents and a long Christian heritage ( I have many, many, many Christ following relatives). Today I celebrate my marriage, the marriage they prepared me for with God's help and many, many prayers! I knew what to look for in a Godly husband and I learned not to settle for less than that. And with all the training and prayers in my life I found Ron! We are off to celebrate and have a very good day off!
